How to use Aquashield Plus

1. Mixing

Caution: Use only non-absorptive materials as mixing base (plastic pail or G.I. sheets). If absorptive materials such as plywood, wooden box, gypsum board, fiber cement board or cardboard is used, it will affect the chemical properties of the product, which can result in bonding failure and poor product performance.

2. Application

A stiff bristle brush is the best and fastest tool to apply Aquashield. This flexible cementitious waterproofing must be applied in 2 coats & spread in a paint-like manner for total coverage. The coats have to be applied in two directions – horizontal and vertical, to form a weave like coating to ensure all surfaces are covered and no pinholes are created. Wait 4 – 6 hours before applying the second coat.

If a third coat is required, observe the same time interval and procedure prior to application.

For areas exposed to direct sunlight (e.g. roof deck) cover waterproofed area with a damp cloth or plastic sheet to prevent premature curing. In cases where water seepages or infiltration is heavy, 3 – 4 coats might be necessary.

3. Finishing

Any waterproofing membrane must at all times have tiling, concrete topping, plaster or skimcoat to protect it from any possible damage.

Aquashield Plus must cure for at least 3 days depending on application area, weather and site conditions before any finishing. Preparations must be done respectively prior to any of the following finishing choices:

  • Skimcoat / Render – Prior to skimcoating, brush on Redifix slurry & let set for at least 4 hours or overnight, for best result. Zemcoat Skimcoat’s max. thickness is 5mm. Follow Redifix slurry mixing ratio: 1L Redifix : 1L Water : 3kg ABC Tile Adhesive
  • Tiles – Trowel ABC Tile Adhesive mortar directly on top of fully cured Aquashield.
  • Mortar Topping – Apply mortar topping with Zembond admixture. Follow Zembond admixture mixing ratio: 4L Zembond : 1 bag cement. Use this as gauging water for the cement and sand mixture.
Note: Water consumption is dependent on mortar use, moisture content of sand and weather conditions.
  • Elastomeric Paint – paint directly on top of Aquashield.
